Hi, I'm Luiz Barcellos
I started playing music when I was 13 and immediately became passionate about the guitar. Years later, while I was studying Jazz in Los Angeles, Tom Jobim passed away. Many colleagues and teachers shared their respect for the composer's legacy, which made me realize that I had a responsibility for Brazilian music tradition.
When I returned to Rio de Janeiro, I used every opportunity to fulfill my wish to learn our music. Through capoeira, forró dancing, and samba, I started filling in the gaps in my training.
In 2010, I completed a Master's Degree in Music at the University Federal do Paraná, where I researched the relationship between music and dance. Then, in 2015, I won a grant to teach Brazilian music at the World Heartbeat Music Academy in London. It was a fantastic and unforgettable experience.
I have been enhancing my skills in music education by combining music with body movement. Therefore, with a Ph.D. in music education from Georgia State University and over 30 years of experience playing music, I am well-equipped to promote Brazilian Music workshops and cultural exchange to empower individuals and enrich lives.
