This workshop highlights culturally diverse music teaching and encourages educators to create a rich learning environment through body movement, rote learning, and group interaction to enhance students’ musicianship. Participants will engage in hands-on musical activities including movement, singing, drumming, and cultural exploration. The sequential movement instruction will naturally progress throughout the session, culminating in an exploration of samba. Educators can integrate the pedagogical techniques introduced in the workshop into their teaching practices across various genres and styles.
Samba for Educators uses the body as a bridge to Brazilian culture. Among all the references related to kinesthetic involvement in music education, there is a relevant contribution to informal learning in the context of the samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, where most conductors have no formal musical training, and the percussionists’ learning process is built orally.
